Just like many of the hunters and gatherers, the forest and rivers are considered as the most significant aspect in life among the Huaorani. Scholars who have studied the Huaorani community have put forward that, animals and plants according to the beliefs of this community have a spiritual as well as a physical existence (Rival 51). Animals despite the fact that they are hunted in this community are heavily respected because it is believed that when people die they return to earth as animals and more specifically termites (Oxford & Bish 45). Hunting is the main mode of subsistence of this community but it is still believed that the spirits of the dead animals have to be appeased otherwise they will cause harm to the humans. In their hunting practices, they put a lot of considerations in snakes and jaguar.
